Merzouga Camel Ride

Camel trekking and night in a Sahara desert camp.

On our Merzouga camel trekking excursions, you will be discovering places that few people get to see. You’ll have the chance to discover magical places in the desert and enjoy its unique landscape.

The camel trek excursions will take you on a Sahara desert safari, where all what you’ll hear is silence.

We invite you to join us on one of our Merzouga camel trekking excursions that can be customized from 1 to 5 days trekking and walking through the Sahara.

The cheapest and the most booked camel trekking in Merzouga, is the one night excursion, staying in Standard or a luxury desert camp.

An opportunity to discover the Erg Chebbi, known as the tallest and most magnificent sand dunes of Morocco, and to spend one or more nights sleeping beneath the stars in a fixed or wild desert camp.

For those who have short time in Merzouga, we recommend just one night, and more than two if you have more time. You’ll be able to stay in the desert for up to five days and four nights.

Each of those Merzouga camel treks offers a priceless chance to see the sunset, the sunrise and try the sand boarding in the dunes.

The camel trek for one night in the desert starts in the afternoon. We arrange the camel ride from a hotel close to the sand dunes. The camel ride will start into the dunes, guided by locals who know the area. After around an hour in the dunes, you will stop to watch the sunset, or continue the camp, where you walk to the dunes to see the sunset. It will be a memorable night when the sky is clear, and you will be able to see millions of the shiny stars.

At the camp, you will have a cup of tea, and then the dinner will be followed by drum music.

The next day, you have to wake up very early in the morning to watch the sunrise, have breakfast, and then we’ll ride camels back to Merzouga.

The two-night Merzouga camel trekking through the desert begins in the afternoon as well. All the equipment we would require for our voyage into the desert, including food, and other requirements, will be prepared.

After 40 minutes riding the camels, we’ll come to a little oasis hidden in the dunes, where we’ll have a stop, climb the dunes, and then continue to the desert camp where we will spend our first night. If we’re lucky and the weather is clear, we might be able to enjoy a starry night. After sunset, there will be a traditional dinner, followed by drumming music around the campfire.

Next day, after an early sunrise and the breakfast, we will ride camels in the direction of the nomads, where we will have lunch either in the tent, mud house or shadow of a desert tree. We will continue our desert trip after lunch, and for the second night, we will either stay in the camp or with a local nomad family (Optional). After breakfast the next morning, we will ride the camels back to Merzouga.

This camel trek was fantastic. Aziz, our tour guide, was really friendly and informative. He was really practical. He always provides stops when we ask him, and he paid attention to every detail. The camp night and the camel ride were incredible. It seemed to be a dream.

After over an hour of camel riding, we reached a mysterious camp in the midst of the desert. The camp and tents were excellent; they were all well-equipped and ready to spend a chilly night in the desert. Our larger surprise was that each tent included a separate complete bathroom.

The staff, the accommodations, the scenery, and the Sahara desert camel ride. With two appetizers and fruits for dessert, the dinner was quite acceptable. Drums and chanting were used as musical accompaniment, which was rather fun and helped you to really immerse yourself in the event.
